A Diver's Haven

If you love exotic marine life and are a diving enthusiast there is great news for you! The Egyptian coastal town of Sharm El Sheikh has been awarded the World's Leading Dive Destination in the recently announced 2011 World Travel Awards. The vibrant city of Sharm el-Sheikh, located in South Sinai, was recognised for its incredible aquatic life and was selected over other top diving spots such as the Maldives, the Great Barrier Reefs in Australia, Belize and Sulawesi in Indonesia. A little piece of diver's heaven, the Red Sea boasts ivory soft sand, unbelievably clear bright blue waters, stunning coral gardens and vast shoals of exotic fish. And if you're lucky you might spot a turtle leisurely swimming by or even come across a pod of dolphins.

Need a place to stay? The Four Seasons Resort Sharm El Sheikh, has also been voted the top ranked resort in the world in the annual Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards. Ranked as number one in Africa and the Middle East, and as number three in the Top 100 hotels and resorts in the world, the Four Seasons Resort Sharm El Sheikh offers both a desert and beachside hideaway, combining the best of Sinai's romantic desert landscapes, year round sunshine and a sun-seekers paradise.

With Abercrombie & Kent, we can make this the trip of a lifetime.

Singer's Tomb Unearthed in Egypt

A fascinating discovery in Egypt's magnificent Valley of the Kings! Archaeologists have unearthed a 3000-year-old tomb of a female singer, it is the only tomb of a woman not related to the ancient Egyptian royal families that has ever been found there, said Mansour Boraik, the top government official for the Antiquities Ministry in the city of Luxor. The coffin of the female singer, remarkably intact, is said to be Nehmes Bastet, and believed to be protected by the feline deity Bastet - seen as the defender of the pharaoh. The tomb was found by accident, according to Elina Paulin-Grothe, Field Director of the excavation at the Valley of the Kings with Switzerland's University of Basel. Archaeologists have concluded from artifacts that she sang in the glorious Karnak Temple, one of the most famous and largest open-air sites from the Pharaonic era.

Interested in the ancient world and the ancient Egyptian civilization? Why not take one of our luxurious Nile cruises and see the Valley of the Kings and the beautifully inscribed towering columns in Karnak Temple for yourself!
